چکیده

ABSTRACT The primates that inhabit the rainforest surrounding city of Manaus (Amazonas, Brazil) have long been recognised as potentially important reservoirs emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases (ERIDs). PCR amplification filarial sequences from wild-caught Simulium oyapockense has used to incriminate Amazon-region ERID bridge vectors by showing they had previously fed on non-human primates. broader use parasite for incrimination biting insects zoonotic disease is limited a paucity primate-derived reference which can be matched amplified obtained insect-vector vectors. Here we shotgun sequencing obtain data an adult Dipetalonema gracile was found infecting wild pied tamarin (Saguinus bicolor) in peripheral region Manaus. We report parasite´s complete mitochondrial genome (which 13,647 base pairs length), 894,846 its Wolbachia 6,426 ribosomal DNA locus (spanning start 18S subunit end 28S subunit). Despite being critically endangered, S. bicolor commonly encountered around periphery urban forest fragments. reported may useful tool identifying provide some insights into amount nature contact between primate pathogen residents

Behavioral effects of introducing pied tamarin (Saguinus bicolor) to black howler monkey (Alouatta caraya) and white-faced saki (Pithecia pithecia) in a zoological park.

Mixed-species primate exhibits are becoming more common in zoological parks as a means to display a diverse array of animals both more naturalistically and with more economy of space. Here, we describe behavioral changes during the introduction process of a pair of pied tamarins (Saguinus bicolor) to an established group of black howler monkeys (Allouatta caraya) and white-faced saki monkeys (P...

PCR Primers for Metazoan Mitochondrial 12S Ribosomal DNA Sequences

BACKGROUND Assessment of the biodiversity of communities of small organisms is most readily done using PCR-based analysis of environmental samples consisting of mixtures of individuals. Known as metagenetics, this approach has transformed understanding of microbial communities and is beginning to be applied to metazoans as well. Unlike microbial studies, where analysis of the 16S ribosomal DNA ...

The insectivorous-frugivorous diet of the golden-handed tamarin (Saguinus midas midas) in French Guiana.

The diet of Saguinus midas is characterised by analysis of stomach contents samples on an annual and seasonal basis. The diet comprises significant proportions of both fruit and insects all year round, although fruit use shows important seasonal variations. The tamarins reduce their use of fruit resources during the peak fruiting season and instead exploit increased opportunities for insectivor...
